The growing trend of dealcoholized wines is turning Italy into a country relegated to the role of mere supplier of raw materials. Due to laws that are out of step with European regulations, Italian producers have three ways to produce low-alcohol wines: use wine as a base for aromatized drinks; produce wines from partially fermented musts; or delegate the dealcoholization process to direct European competitors.
